Students in Brazil score 405 points in science, on average – below the OECD average and comparable with Argentina, Colombia, Jordan and Tunisia. Among Latin American countries, Brazil performs below Chile, Costa Rica, Uruguay and Mexico, but above Peru. Some 61.0% of students in Brazil are low performers in science, meaning that, at best, they can present scientific explanations that are obvious and follow explicitly from given evidence.
